"My name is Sandy Hsu and I'm so unlucky.
I wish I were special, but my life's just yucky."
"I'm not very beautiful and I don't have smarts.
If I have anything nice, it's only in parts."
"I'm as unremarkable as can be.
Just a lowly person as you can see."
"I don't know why but I just can't fit in.
I try and try but I can never win."
"When I play sports, we pick our teams,
Am I chosen first? In my dreams."
"During our play, they never pass me the ball.
I guess I'm awful clumsy, I always fall."
"I don't get it, am I born with a curse?
Maybe I'm just lousy, don't know what's worse."
"I wish I were someone with talent and skill.
But everything I get into just goes downhill."
"All around me, all that I can see,
Are people who are better than me."
"I want to be somebody, somebody great.
Don't know if it's likely, I'll leave that to fate."
"Every time I look to the best, I get inspired.
But when I practice my game, I only grow tired."
"I try and try but I always fail.
When oh when will I ever prevail?"
"Watching movies and reading 'zines for teens,
I'm wanting fame, fortune, and fashion jeans."
"It'd be great if I could possess some style and grace.
I wouldn't have to worry about saving face."
"If I were famous, people would know my name.
They wouldn't ignore my voice or call me lame."
"Can I ever reach such an admired position?
Is it possible to succeed in my condition?"
"Where's my attention? Where's my recognition?
This crazy world is ruining my ambition."
"I wish I could be a superstar or sports hero.
But at the end of the day, I'm still just a zero."
"Why can't I be popular or have more friends?
I say hi to people, but that's where it ends."
"If I'm known for anything, it isn't being cool.
Everyone thinks I'm the unluckiest girl in school."
"It's hard to be who I am, it's just no good.
People don't know me, I'm so misunderstood."
"I'm always unlucky; my life's just not fair.
I'm tired of losing; it's more than I can bear."
"Being doomed to my life, it's hard to be glad.
As troubles appear, it's easy to feel sad..."
At that point, Sandy's mom wandered by.
She heard some crying and wondered why.
"Sandy, what's wrong? You don't look well.
You must be upset. I can tell."
"Mom, I wish I were special but I'm not.
I'm just some loser that people forgot."
"Sandy, being special isn't being a hero or star.
Being special is being who you are."
"Don't feel bad about yourself. Why all the fuss?
You are someone special. You're special to us."
