"Mommy! Mommy! Let's go to the pound!
To the shelter! And see what they found!"
Puppies and dogs were on Julie Yang's brain.
It was a yearning she couldn't contain.
She dreamt of little puppies both day and night.
From the beginning, it was love at first sight.
"Can I go see them? Promise I'll be good."
Julie would beg every day if she could.
Her mother replied, "Ok, we can stop by.
I know you like going, so I won't deny."
From each kennel came howling cries,
With wagging tails and puppy eyes.
Dogs come in many sizes and breeds.
Julie searched for one that fit her needs.
She wanted something small and short haired,
A pup that's fun and easily cared.
There was a puppy that captured her heart.
"Awww isn't she cute? And lookit, she's smart!"
A young dachshund named Daisy,
Was found to drive Julie crazy.
"Mom, can I have this dog? I can't wait!
Owning a puppy must be my fate."
"Now Julie, we need to think this one through.
I'll speak with your father, then we'll pursue."
After much consideration and thought,
They went to adopt Daisy on the spot.
"Yaay! Finally! A pup of my very own!"
Julie was delighted to bring her dog home.
Running around, they both squealed with glee.
A happy pair, like they were meant to be.
The next day, Julie had to go to school.
For Daisy, watching her leave was too cruel.
The young puppy whimpered and jumped about.
"I'm sorry girl! But I have to go out!"
"But don't worry, I'll see you again!
You'll just have to stay put until then."
Faithfully waiting for Julie to show,
Daisy wondered, "Where did my master go?"
After some time, Daisy could wait no more.
Scratching the fence, she pried open the door.
Following the trail of Julie's scent,
Daisy sniffed out where her master went.
Back at school, Julie stared at the clock.
Watching each tick, awaiting each tock.
Sitting in class, Julie thought of one thing.
Her puppy back home and the joys she'll bring.
When the school bell rung, Julie leapt from her seat.
Overflowing with joy, she ran down the street.
She expected to see Daisy on her lawn.
Only to discover, her puppy was gone.
"Daisy! Daisy!" She cried out by name.
"Where have you gone?" It wasn't the same.
Franticly searching, Julie welled up with tears.
A missing puppy was the worst of her fears.
Meanwhile at school, Daisy was hot on the trail.
And she made it to the classroom without fail.
Finding her way through an open door,
She stopped at Julie's desk to explore.
Wagging her tail, she sat herself down.
Hoping to see her master around.
The teacher glanced over, to his confusion.
"A dog on a desk? Nah, that's an illusion."
Daisy scampered away, following her mission.
In closing pursuit of her heartfelt ambition.
Back at home, Julie sat in an empty yard.
Lonely and depressed, she was taking it hard.
Silently waiting, she would earnestly yearn.
Hoping and longing for her puppy's return.
At that moment, around a tree,
Came running Daisy suddenly!
"Oh Daisy! Daisy! Where did you go?
While you were away, I missed you so."
Julie gave her puppy a warm embrace.
Daisy wagged her tail and licked Julie's face.
"Promise me to never wander away,
And I'll promise to love you every day."
The End.
